Works "the bench" — seed/plant work at the Threap ostal, alongside the seed-tray and grinding-wheel props tracked elsewhere in the book. Handles a sealed workspace ("the seal") — "did not want anybody's air across it." Her name is spelled out on the page by Emrit, a load-bearing beat: "Velu. V, e, l, u — she'll not thank you for the second one wrong, it's her mother's" (chapter 26).

Terse. Answers Emrit in Sethlan in about four words without looking up from the bench. Puts her forearm over her face at the bench (light-sensitivity or exhaustion — mechanism not stated).
