About
Stub (named walk-on, speaks). Created The Quiet Mathematics.
Floor chief of the sealed array floor under the security/institutional body that takes control of the Svalbard discovery at the start of Book 2 (early 2050). The human face of the takeover-by-procedure: locks, inventory codes, survey-then-crate. - Tall, fifties, clean-shaven in a station where most men stop shaving by February; works off a tablet/printout, reads from a list. Correct, immovable, not cruel — "the way a man reads a meter." Enforces the access change (Maren's card reissued for corridor + office, not the floor) and the crating of console three. - Small human flickers: concedes Maren's timing-reference condition without warmth; "Noted," and writes nothing; something that "might in another man have been the start of a question" passes over his face at her gutted valve radio. Institutional, NOT military (no soldiers/weapons).
