Escort warship — 'a ship that mostly did escort work' (The Firing Order, chapter 13); the books never name a class

ISV Redoubt

The professional naval lane of the expedition, and the ship that keeps moving when Sarah Bishop is absent. Her arrangement is known through the path a round takes — up out of a ready magazine into the cradle and up the second stage, through a handling room that calls each one out loud, to a mount whose shot comes back down through the deckhead as a flat knock you take in the knees — and through the plant four decks down, the loudest and hottest part of the ship, where an engineer sells readiness at an exchange rate.

Casualties marked SPOILER.

'They never fired a live round.' THE EXCHANGE RATE — paid here. Forty minutes of full director set buys three hours of running quiet; rounds at the hoists costs a tenth and lasts for days. 'That's not a limit, it's an exchange rate.' THE KNOCK — each shot from the after mount 'came back down through the deckhead as a flat knock you took in the knees' in the room below, where Okada calls the rounds up out loud. RADIATORS ALONG HER EDGES — heat leaves 'the one way it can, off the radiators along her edges, at the rate the radiators will take it and no faster'. She is a long hull with her mass in her ends. ⚠ SPOILER — the third hit: the deck aft of the mess flat open to the ship's air for eleven seconds; the after director gone. What was checked

The books state distances aboard this ship. The drawing has to produce the same ones or it is wrong — so it is made to, and the working is shown. These run again on every build; a compartment moved by a metre fails them.

  • “The plant is four decks down from the bridge” The Firing Order, chapter 17 ('The plant was four decks down'); The Defensible Route, chapter 28 ('Thrust is made four decks down')

    L1 (bridge flat 1-03) → L2 → L3 → L4 → L5 (plant 5-02): four levels down. Pass.

  • “The director space is above the forward handling room and the hull is above that” The Firing Order, chapter 17 ('what was left of the compartment above it was not going to be a compartment again, and above that there was a hole in the ship'); ch17:215 ('the three in the director space above them')

1-02 [24,36] on L1 sits directly over 2-02 [24,36] on L2, and L1 is the topside level under the hull. Pass.

  • “Rounds go up: ready magazine, cradle, second stage, handling room, rail, mount” The Firing Order, chapter 4 ('Rounds up out of the ready magazine and into the cradle and up the second stage, the after room calling each one out loud on its way to the mount … each shot came back down through the deckhead')

    3-03 after ready magazine (z 6.0) → 2-07 after handling room (z 9.0) → 1-06 after mount (z 12.0), all at [130,154]; the same stack forward at [24,36] with 3-01, 2-02 and 1-01/1-02. Monotonic in z. The lower magazine 4-02 (z 3.5) feeds up through the pawl 4-01. Pass.

  • “The deck aft of the mess flat is aft of the mess flat, and the after director is aft of both” The Firing Order, chapter 22,:191

    2-04 [70,96] → 2-05 [96,110]; 1-05 after director at [130,142]. Pass.

  • “Ninety-one rounds, sixty-eight away, twenty-three left, and no replacement stock in the formation” The Firing Order, chapter 17,:225

91 − 68 = 23. Both ready magazines together hold the count; the split between 3-01 and 3-03 is the drawing's. Pass.

  • “She went first, six minutes into an eighty-minute window, on a Friday morning — and no clock time is on the page” The Firing Order, chapter 3 ('*Redoubt* went first and went cleanly'); The Firing Order, chapter 4 ('asleep before Friday morning'); ch04:213 ('ran for eighty minutes … an escort goes first'); ch04:219 ('crossed the entry boundary six minutes into the window');:103 (10 March 2350 is a Friday)

The 09:26 / 08:50 / 10:40 of the 2026-08-31 sheet are withdrawn; the series bans clock stamps and none appears. Date derived from the weekday table; the minutes published. Pass.

  • “Overall length is the drawing's” spec ruling 2026-08-31

180 frames at 1000 mm = 180 m. No dimension is stated anywhere for her; graded fixed.
